Introspection. Many of my self-portraits have to do with physical pain, being contorted, injuries, and accidents. I use these to express thoughts, emotions, or life events through metaphor, which is also why I often include very few words or phrases that don't explicitly explain an image. We seek understanding, make meaning, and analyze causality through art. We can tell our deepest secrets publicly, but perhaps not literally. To me, cathartic expression is first and foremost for the maker, and ambiguity (however simple or complex) allows others to use it if and how they may.
